The Second International Conference on Formal Concept Analysis (ICFCA 04)

After a successful first ICFCA last year in Darmstadt ( website), the second one will be held in Sydney from February 23-26 in 2004.

Formal Concept Analysis emerged in the 1980's from attempts to restructure lattice theory to promote better communication between lattice theorists and potential users of lattice theory. Since then Formal Concept Analysis has developed into a growing research field in its own right with a thriving theoretical community and an increasing number of applications in data and knowledge processing including data visualisation, mining, analysis and knowledge management.

In terms of theory, Formal Concept Analysis has been extended into Attribute Exploration, Boolean Judgment and Contextual Logic to create a powerful general framework for knowledge representation and reasoning. This conference aims to unify theoretical and applied practitioners using Formal Concept Analysis drawing from the fields of Mathematics, Computer and Library Sciences and Software Engineering.

The conference will include tutorial sessions demonstrating the practical benefits of data and knowledge processing using Formal Concept Analysis and highlight developments in the foundational theory. The conference will showcase the increasing variety of Formal Concept Analysis software and include 7 invited lectures from speakers who are expert in the field.
